Tip amount: Bill × (Tip % ÷ 100)
Total bill: Bill + Tip amount
Per person: Total bill ÷ Number of people

Common questions
Calculating a tip on the pre-tax subtotal and calculating it on the post-tax total produce two different numbers, since tax adds to the base amount first. This calculator uses whatever figure you enter as the bill — enter the pre-tax subtotal if that is the number you want the tip based on.
This calculator divides the total bill and tip evenly across the number of people entered. For an itemized split instead, calculate each person's tip on their own item total separately, then add it to their share of the bill.
Check the receipt for a line labeled "gratuity," "service charge," or similar — some restaurants add this automatically for larger parties. If it is listed separately from the subtotal, it has already been added.
